Once we lend ourselves to the mood of his development, we shall surely find solid strength for unquestioning reliance on divine assistance, in fact just that very confidence imparted by the Author of this simple series of everyday requests when He first declared to His followers, "Thus shall you pray." On page 97 Guardini adopts a view of the petition, "Lead us not into temptation," that will bear qualification. Academic speculation can make the doctrine of God's permissive will sound somewhat harsh in a book of devotion.“
